Obituary
Robert V. Delaney, Sr. of Manhattan died on March 10th at the age of 86 after a long, brave battle with cancer. His loving wife of 64 years, Marie Monaco Delaney, was at his side.
Bob was born on October 1, 1934 in the Bronx to Alice and Charles Delaney and is preceded in death by his brother, Charles. He graduated from Fordham Prep, Fordham University, and the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. He served in the US Army as a Captain. Bob had a 36-year career at Brooklyn Union Gas Company, where he retired in 1991 as Group Senior VP and CAO.
Bob served on the boards of numerous community organizations. He was most proud of his time as Chair of the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation and Director of Comprehensive Youth Development (CYD). Known for his love of opera, a Perfect Manhattan, and the NY Rangers, Bob was a legendary story-teller with a quick wit and big heart.
Bob is survived by his wife and five children, Robert (Pam), Richard (Karen), Charles (Terry), Christopher (Carmel), Elizabeth (Jeff); 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A private funeral mass was held at St. Thomas More Parish.
