Obituary
Maurice “Mike” Solomon died on March 27 at the age of 92 in New York City. He graduated from Horace Mann School and Syracuse University before embarking on a 50 year career at Julien J. Studley, Inc. ultimately rising to Vice Chairman at the firm now known as Savills.
A handsome and debonair lover of art, he was the consummate New Yorker. He relished adventure and what was novel in work and personal life often replying “why not” to ideas other rejected. The Yankees were his religion and his family his biggest source of pride. He was a devoted and loving husband to Lucille for more than 50 years and burst with pride and love for his grandson Grant.
As a father, he was simply the reference standard for all of us. He was the rare successful, well travelled man who could recite poetry and be everyone’s trusted advisor while keeping it fun all the while. His kindness, optimism and sense of humor will be remembered by all. We truly have lost a legend and all of us are better people by having him in our life.
In addition to his wife Lucille, he is survived by his son, Mark Solomon, and grandson, Grant Solomon, both of Dallas, and his nephew and grand-nephew, Matthew and Benjamin Solomon, Winnie and Tootsie.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 9, at Frank E. Campbell at 1076 Madison Ave. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Southern Poverty Law Center or the United Negro College Fund.
